Working group – Coast
Suggested ideas
1. Supporting observation systems for biodiversity knowledge and management
Monitoring of species distribution patterns in ecosystems, in particular seagrass beds, likely to adapt to i) thermal niches, ii) changes in habitats, iii) the emergence of invasive species and their interactions with other species.
2. Assessing the potential and monitoring the evolution and effects of Nature-based Solutions (NBS)
The re-naturalization of abandoned salt pans enables us to study their role as SFNs for adapting to rising sea levels. Study these environments as temporary Mediterranean lagoons. Re-creation of wetlands and intermittent and permanent watercourses in watersheds (to encourage the retention of rainwater in watersheds and prevent it from flowing rapidly into the sea and/or coastal lagoon).
3. Contribution of observatories to climate change adaptation measures
Diversification of indicators for monitoring the impacts of climate change, in particular measuring the adaptive capacities of territories and behaviors (innovative survey methods and new devices linked to the monitoring of telephones or mobility, for example…).
4. Improving adaptation and transition strategies
New sensors or devices to reduce monitoring time steps and help anticipate adaptation measures; New indicators to support transformational adaptations and change processes.
5. Reinforced monitoring of emerging issues
Monitoring of contamination and invasive species, in particular the Blue Crab; Improved monitoring and management of sources of invasive species introduction (ballast water, ship fouling, product transfers, etc.).
