Working group – Mountain

Earth observation to support mountain and hinterland territories covers two main functions: (i) characterization of resources and uses and detection of changes; and (ii) identification of solutions to prioritize action through trade-off analysis, for example.

A simplified conceptualization of mountain and hinterland territories is proposed to frame the working group’s discussion, differentiating between natural and man-made resources and their uses, under the mediation of stakeholders and territorial governance bodies. The working group will therefore seek to exploit existing data and work with stakeholders to build operational tools to make their analysis intelligible for local decision-making.
